Sanrio 50th Event - Crowded Teeth Booth
Jamie from JapanLA contacted me a few months ago asking if I wanted to do an installation for the Sanrio 50th Anniversary event in Los Angeles. I said OH HELL YES. So this has been what I have been working on the past 3 months!
Being a part of this project has been such an honor. I'm happy with how the booth came out. I had about a month of trial and error as to how I was going to created the character portraits. At first I was going to paint, then wood prints, and then I finally decided on doing layered paper cut outs. I think there are 50 characters - some of the main ones are repeated twice.
I had the whole room laid out and designed for months so when it finally came time to set up it went pretty smoothly. It took about 10 hours. I decided to add the flooring in last minute - J (My husband) came out to help me with the floor!
I attended the opening on Thursday but was recovering from a cold and I was mopey and tired! What a dud! I forgot my business cards and to take pictures of of everything. Oof!
I am going to be attending the Loungefly/Nerds party tonight so I will be in full fun excitement mode and I am going to get pictures of all of the happenings and other art.
Look out for new Crowded Teeth illustrations coming soon! Hearts!!

Wall of character portraits! I designed the characters and wall first before starting. The strings hanging from the portraits on the end are felt bows. There are 50 tiny felt bows per wall.

The chairs are school chairs, and I had laser cut wood/acrylic bows made for the chair back. The large Hello Kitty, Keroppi, and Tuxedo Sam balls are made out of a yoga ball (Kitty) and kid's bouncy ball (Keroppi and Sam). They are covered in felt.

The crocheted plushies were made by Erin Paisley. They are AMAZING. I am going to make a separate post just for Erin with close ups of the plushes. They are so awesome. She is one of the nicest people I've ever worked with. I contacted her a few months ago after falling in love with her Etsy shop and she totally ruled at turning my versions of the characters into magic.

I made paper versions of some of the characters. Kits to make mini versions of the paper toys are available for sale at the show.

Small Gift Big Smile! Yay! This is a cardboard banner with felt bows.

I made a few wooden toys of the characters. I am teaching a workshop on how to make your own next Saturday (November 20th) Here is more info on the workshops.

Sanrio - 50th Anniversary - LA Event
I am so excited to be a part of this show!! I am an incredibly lucky lady to be on a list with all of these awesome artists!
I have a booth of art of my take on many of the Sanrio characters. I created about 100 pieces of art for this show! AAHHH. It has been my main project for the past few months!
Sanrio was such a big part of my life growing up I feel really special to be a part of this show!
I posted a couple of designs I worked up below - but I am not allowed to show the actual art until after the opening. I'll be posting here on Friday! EEE!
Jamie from JapanLA has been so nice in asking me to be a part of this - and the Sanrio people have given me such nice feedback about what I have worked up.
I am going to be teaching a couple of workshops on the 20th - I will post more details on those as they come.
Here is the basic info for the show, Please come out!
