First of all - a very special thank you to Bowie Style over at Print & Pattern. She wrote a nice write up on me and my visitors have skyrocketed!

I've also receive a quite a few sweet emails that have made my day. It's nice that people like what I'm doing. So - hello new people! I'm so happy you are reading now. On January 19th I literally had 2 readers for the day. Since November I was averaging about 12 people a day. I know I looked at the site 8 times a day, and my mom is reading on a regular basis - so my traffic was very sad. I am the worst at advertising and promoting. Anyway - SO MANY THANKS!

I got in a car accident today. No one was hurt. Not my fault. Very minimal damage. It was just annoying.

I was about to turn left onto the street where I work, and some dude rear ended me. He was turning out of a parking lot and somehow hit the rear driver side of my car. Later his Dad called me and told me he wanted to come to my house or work to take a picture of my car. I told him that the insurance company could do it. I don't want to get involved. He was also mad at me because I realized that I had given the kid my old insurance info. for my old car. I called the kid about 2 minutes after I had gotten to work when I realized this, but he didn't want the info at the time. I told him to call me back. When his dad called me he was like "YOU ARE GIVING ME DIFFERENT INFO. THAN WHAT MY SON WROTE!!!" I think he thought I was trying to pull a fast one on him or something. Maybe he thought I was trying to give him the info. for a different car that was horribly damaged or something? This made me even more annoyed. Now I have to call my insurance people and tell them that at first I gave him my wrong info. and blah blah blah. SO ANNOYING.

Anyway - that inspired me to make these:

When my car insurance people were interviewing me - I realized that I had forgotten to write down his license plate number, the make and model of the car, and his age (which I didn't even realize you needed to know). So now I'll keep these in my car just in case (I've been in like 6 accidents in my driving career, I'm sure there will be more). I'm printing 100 of them, I think I might sell them in packs of 5 for like $3.00.

Also - speaking of selling things - I'm doing my November and December product releases next week. In the future I am hoping to do a product release on the 21st of each month.

I am just waiting for the product to arrive. The November product is going to be a set of 10 1" pins (1 for each pattern I made in November), on a felt card in a handmade envelope. I think it will be $10.00 for the set. The December product is going to be the House poster. I made 25 10" X 18" mini posters that are printed on a digital press (like a fancy color copy). Those will be $15.00 each. And I made 25 really nice quality posters on high gloss paper that are 13"X 24" and those will be $40.00. Everything will be hand numbered and everything will be available through Crowded Teeth.

I like this... kind of. I think it needs more to look really complete. I did this by messing with the 3D wireframe effect in Illustrator. I wanted it to look like pencil.

This says "salad days." These might be my salad days. It's one of my favorite expressions and I think I started really embracing it after watching 'Raising Arizona' 200 times. I don't really love this design though. I think it could use "more" - but I don't know what. I was too tired to really mess with it past the initial concept.

I totally love this and it took me 5 second to make. J told me it sounds like a Modest Mouse lyric.

No. 22
This might be the worst thing ever. I totally hate it. Hahaha. It's Helvetica modified again.
At least the phrase is a nice thing to think about.

No. 23
I didn't name this alphabet. This is definitely something that has been done before, but it was really fun to make.

Even though this month has been fun and has forced me to be less generic with fonts, I like drawing things a lot better. I wanted to make a thank you card - so here it is!

No. 25
This is for my friend Jennifer who also inspired the Flanzie character from last month. We've worked together for the past year and a half, and she is leaving! She is moving up north. I will still talk to her a lot, but it's going to suck not going to lunch everyday. I had to do this early because we are going out tonight with work people to get our party on.

Success! I am posting on time. I did my Thursday and Friday drawing at the same time since I didn't have any other work to do tonight.

No. 12
This is kind of cheating, it's not really about the font, or words, it's more about the characters. I made this so that I could make flash cards or a poster for kids. Each little dude or dudette has an icon for their letter on their shirt. There are 13 different kids before it repeats. This took me all day Saturday to complete.

Someone once said this to me and it stuck. I always thought that was a very nice thing to say to someone.

The smile face is the face from Braden's yeti. The font is Helvetica. I made this while I was watching a Demetri Martin special. All of the vowels have the burst deal. I was distracted and I'm not really happy with how it came out. The things I do like are the color, and the sentiment behind it.

Some more of my handwriting, scanned in and jazzed up. I like this one.

No. 15
More of my handwriting. I was thinking about my illegible cursive, but I drew this legibly. When I doodle a lot of the time I will draw cursive I's because I think that they are pretty.

No. 16
I really do!

You better.

No. 17
This was my first attempt to write "there isn't anything left" - but then I got lazy. I like everything except the lettering, haha.

No. 17
2 appropriate phrases to go with this one are - "Where is it?" and Whoomp!"
I totally like this one. It was a happy surprise. This was actually the second attempt to write "there isn't anything left" but again - laze. I want to make an alphabet of this also because I'm into it.

I am the worst. My plan was to update every Friday, but instead of updating last night I passed out early. I slept on the couch fully dressed until about 10am this morning. So you know - I guess you can always expect an update - "end-of-the-weekish."

No. 5
I named this font "Mine" because it's my writing. This is my "neat" writing - used on doctor's forms and things that other people have to read. Most of the time I write in illegible cursive. My A's and G's vary from being lowercase and uppercase - but the rest are pretty standard.

I named this "Fortress" because it's based on the Super Mario 3 fortress blocks. My brain directly thinks of the first fortress - after you get the question block if you are slick you can slide under the roto-disk, run, fly, and then get the 1st warp whistle. ANYHOO - this fortress is gaurded by yeti.

This says "How About Now?" in case you can't read it.

Los Angeles is where I hang my hat. I love this place and I'm happy to call it home.
I wanted to do more with this, and I also wanted to do a Temecula one (since I still hang my hat there on occasion (and also did for about 18 years)) but I got lazy.

No. 8
Another lazy one. Wouldn't have been cool if I made a whole set of dudes as letters??? I started this, and even hand drew out all of the letters, but then realized how long it would take to do the whole alphabet in Illustrator. I've been trying to update my line all week, so my book project is on the back burner. I felt like most of the projects this week rushed.

This was based on watching a lot of Law and Order CI. Bobby Goren is my all time fave.

No. 9
THE EPITOME OF LAZE!!!! This is an existing font (Braggadocio). I edited it (slanted tops) and added the word bubbles (because I am working on this big elaborate word bubble collage for a tee). When I finished it I was like "SHIT IS THIS THE 'SEX AND THE CITY' FONT?" but it's not. The phrase is for how I felt about the project on this day.

No. 10
Beards. I love 'em. They are a good thing to be excited about. J had a beard for a long, long time but now he doesn't. This idea stemmed from making a whole hair font, but again - LAZE.

...for you AND me

No. 11
I used an existing font for this one too - it's the example font used for teaching cursive. I first set it up with Helvetica, but it wasn't working. I just wanted to use Helvetica because it's everyone's favorite. The elephants are also for a t-shirt design. This week Crowded Teeth was bumping the 25 project in the priority department.

The font project has been fun for me so far. I have a lot of ideas, even if some of them are un-original.

No. 2
I originally named this 'Sweet Tooth' but then I was looking through a book and saw that someone had done the same tooth/mouth writing thing and had called it 'Sweet Tooth'. I know this isn't a new idea (again), but I just wanted to do my own version.

Did you know I actually have to wear a mouth guard when I sleep (sometimes)? I'm a tooth grinder. It's a bummer.

No. 3
The style of this reminds me of my friend Stevers. She said it was because it was a bummer phrase, but I just thought kind of because of the layout and stuff. I drew the top lettering with the pen tool and then messed with it - I like how it turned out. And the bottom letting was made with a brush I made. I don't want to make a full alphabet out of this, it wouldn't work with the cursive because all of the letters are different and would never fit together.
Anyway - the phrase is just a reminder to myself.

I didn't intentionally make it say "YOU THINK ABOUT BAD" on purpose, but I think that this phrase is even better than the first one. Hahaha.

DOUBLEPANTS! This is what I've been wearing to bed for the past week because I've been freezing. I've been wearing leggings with sweatpants over them. It looks better than it reads even, BELIEVE ME. I love these guys. I really want to make an alphabet of this, but it will take time. Maybe I will do it later on.

January is fonts and typography. I have limited knowledge in this department so I am unsure if I'm doing it properly. I am going get a book or something. Here is my first attempt - "Handwriting". This idea has been done before, but this is just my take on it.

Even though it's super simplified, it started out pretty accurate to how you would make the letters with your hands. But there are a few letters that aren't so realistic. I also should do numbers, maybe later.

I don't know if I will be able to complete a full alphabet everyday but if time and patience allows - I will. Otherwise I just might do words and phrases.

These will be available soon. I will be making 25 of each. Or maybe just the house because it's better.

Theme: Characters • No. 28-31

Happy New Year! We had plans, we didn't have plans - it went back and forth all day. J and I ended up couching it and watching the Twilight Zone marathon. There's also a Law and Order CI marathon and an SVU marathon. There was also a Futurama marathon for the past 3 days. My brain is exploding with TV goodness. I also took a 2 hour nap and spent the last hour doing my business taxes for the year. SO EXCITING!!!

A new theme starts today and will be posted later. Here are the remainder of the characters for December.

No. 28
SUPER TOOTH. This came from doodling on the couch with J. He wanted me to draw plaque man (that looked like Pacman) but I refused.

No 29.
I always draw less detailed versions of these guys when I get bored. Just dudes with sad faces (usually) and really long legs. I don't know why I made these guys sporty.

No. 30
More Planet Earth inspirado.
Did you see the one where the polar bear dies after trying to attack a walrus. SO SAD.
In this version - he lives and eats a hot dog. You can't tell in this image - but the hot dog is not happy about this situation.

No. 31
Inspired by having ramen with my lady friend Jennifer last night.
We went to Daikokuya in Little Tokyo last night. SO GOOD. SOOOOO GOOOD.

Talking Tina might be up next on the marathon. Hella creepy.
