Theme: Wood Craft • No. 1-8

The disadvantage of posting three times in one day is that people forget to look back at the older posts. Remember to scroll down and look at the end of May! I am going to make a sincere effort to post more often.

This month I am making little wooden figures. They are simple to make and I like them so far! Plus it gives me a chance to be away from the computer. I'm a terrible painter these days, but I still have fun putting things together. I am excited that at the end of the month I'm going to have an army of little dudes.

If you want to make your own here is what I used and how I made them.

- 1.5" Wooden Balls
- 1.25" Wooden Napkin Rings
- Acrylic Paint and Clear Coat
- Decorative Paper and Fabric
- Beads, Feathers, Etc.
- Twine and Yarn
- Felt
- Glue

- Paint the head and body separately.
- Glue the ball to the napkin ring - to make it more secure glue felt supports inside of the napkin ring to connect the head to the body.
- Cut a circle of felt or heavy paper to add a base - glue on.
- Clear coat the whole thing
- Add yarn or other details

The balls are flat on one side and that is where they are glued into the napkin ring. If the napkin ring is warped it doesn't fit perfectly - that's why I added the felt supports inside.

No. 1
I have a feeling that a lot of the characters this month are just going to be little people. They are the easiest to make.

No. 2
Bird Lady.

No. 3
This little dude is sick, and hurt! He has bandages and is nauseous.

No. 4
Caveman. His loin cloth is made out of a paper bag.

No. 5
I don't know what this guy is. J said it looks like he really wants to fly. He made a little hat that makes it possible. I thought it kind of looked like a Pokéball from Pokémon - only with a bunny face.

No. 6
Just a plain dude. I liked the look of the scar on the wood and didn't want to paint over it.

No. 7
Pai Mei! White eyebrows! I just watched Kill Bill for the first time last weekend - I am 4 years behind.

No. 8
Lion. This might be my favorite so far. His hair was a pain to make.

These remind me of the old wooden playschool little people - how funny to come full circle.
